The Monterey Bay Aquarium relies on scientific research to ensure safe collection and handling of exhibit animals; to provide clean, high-quality sea water to our exhibits; to accurately assess the sustainability of fisheries rated by our Seafood Watch program; and to inform our conservation policy work. Under the oversight of our Chief Scientist, our dedicated scientific staff and partners employ state-of-the-art methods to advance our scientific understanding of the animals and ecosystems we study.
Why We're Effective
Conservation Research staff brings expertise in population biology and ecosystem studies to bear on key species in the North Pacific Ocean. Current foci are southern sea otters, white sharks, and bluefin tuna, and future efforts will target species and ecosystems most in need of conservation relevant studies.
